General Manager

Description

We’re looking for a hands-on General Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our Toronto Retail, Taproom/Kitchen and Event space. In this role you will be responsible for delivering exceptional guest experiences while driving strong commercial performance across taproom sales, food/beverage programming, retail merchandise, and private events. Additionally, this role will lead the front of house team in Toronto by managing staffing, inventory, and ensuring the space operates smoothly and consistently every day.

This is a working leadership role, with at least 50% of time spent on the taproom floor supporting the team and engaging with guests. 

A typical day as a General Manager includes:
  • Leading the taproom floor during service, ensuring a high-quality and consistent guest experience
  • Overseeing opening and closing procedures and ensuring operational readiness each day
  • Managing staff schedules and labour to align with business needs and targets
  • Coaching and supporting team members in real-time on service standards and product knowledge
  • Monitoring sales performance, AOV, and guest feedback to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Managing taproom inventory including beer, merchandise, and retail products
  • Working with the team to coordinate and execute private events and community programming
  • Handling guest inquiries, feedback, and any service escalations
  • Collaborating with the Hospitality Operations Manager on reporting, planning, and performance tracking
  • Ensuring the space reflects the Collective Arts brand through merchandising, cleanliness, and overall vibe
  • Oversee kitchen and back-of-house operations, ensuring food quality, consistency, and adherence to food safety standards (Public Health, HACCP where applicable)
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels across beer, food, and retail by implementing strong ordering, tracking, and stock control processes to minimize stockouts and waste

How your time will be organized
  • Taproom Operations & Floor Leadership 50%
  • Working in service during the week 
  • Being on site and supporting the team during peak periods
  • Overseeing daily operations, service standards, and guest experience
  • Managing opening/closing procedures and ensuring smooth day-to-day execution
  • Team Leadership & Development 20%
  • Hiring, training, and coaching taproom staff
  • Leading team meetings and communicating priorities, promotions, and updates
  • Building a positive, accountable, and high-performing team culture
  • Private/Public Events and Food Programming 15%
  • Managing incoming event inquiries and bookings
  • Supporting the planning and execution of private and community events
  • Building relationships with local partners and organizations
  • Work with the Kitchen team to execute branded food programming 
  • Inventory & Reporting 15%
  • Managing inventory levels across beer, retail, and merchandise
  • Ensuring accurate tracking and minimizing stock issues
  • Executing merchandising displays aligned with brand campaigns and seasonal initiatives
  • Tracking and reporting on KPIs including sales, labour, AOV, and NPS
  • Identifying opportunities to improve performance and drive revenue

We’re looking for candidates who have/are:
  • 3+ years of experience managing a hospitality venue (bar, restaurant, brewery, or similar)
  • Previous experience overseeing a kitchen is considered an asset
  • Proven ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, service-driven environment
  • Strong understanding of hospitality operations including labour management and inventory control
  • Experience managing events or group bookings
  • Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
  • A hands-on leadership style with a willingness to jump in and support the team
  • Passion for hospitality, craft beverage, and creating memorable guest experiences
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends when needed

Compensation

$55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
